রোববার তিনি গণমাধ্যমকে জানান, ২৮ অক্টোবর বিএনপির মহাসমাবেশ কেন্দ্র করে পুলিশের ছোড়া টিয়ারশেলের কারণে অসুস্থ হয়েছেন মির্জা ফখরুল। এদিন রাতে তাকে চিকিৎসকের কাছে যেতে হয়েছে।

তিনি বলেন, 'আব্বুর বয়স ৭৬ এবং তিনি গতরাতেও প্রচণ্ড অসুস্থ ছিলেন। পুলিশের টিয়ার গ্যাস তার ফুসফুসে গেছে এবং তিনি রাতেই ডাক্তারের শরণাপন্ন হয়েছিলেন। আমি অবিলম্বে আমার আব্বুর মুক্তি চাই।’

বিএনপি মহাসচিবের আটকের বিষয়ে উল্লেখ করে শামারুহ মির্জা বলেন, ‘আমার বাবা মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীরকে আজ সকালে ডিবি পুলিশ আটক করে নিয়ে গেছে। আজ বাংলাদেশ যখন বিরোধী মতামত প্রকাশের কোনো সুযোগ নেই, লাখ লাখ বিরোধী মতাদর্শী কারাগারে বন্দি, লাখ লাখ সন্তান তাদের বাবার জন্য অপেক্ষা করছে, সেখানে এই ঘটনা আমাকে অবাক করেনি! আমার আল্লাহর ওপর পূর্ণ বিশ্বাস— এই জুলুম একদিন শেষ হবে।’

রোববার শেষ খবর পাওয়া পর্যন্ত মির্জা ফখরুলকে ডিবি অফিসে আটক রাখা হয়েছে। তাকে বিভিন্ন মামলায় গ্রেফতার দেখানো হতে পারে বলে বিভিন্ন সূত্রে জানা গেছে।
