העמותה הישראלית לגושה: עמוד הבית

מחלת גושה היא אחת ממחלות האגירה הנפוצות ביותר בישראל ובעולם. העמותה הישראלית לגושה נוסדה בשנת 1991 על ידי קומץ חולים ובני משפחותיהם בתמיכה ושיתוף של פרופ' ארי זמרן ממרכז רפואי שערי צדק.
בראש העמותה התייצבה עו"ד דורית לוי טילר אמה של יעל, חולת גושה. המטרה הראשונה שהעמותה הציבה לעצמה הייתה השגת הטיפול האנזימי החלופי על חשבון קופות החולים אשר היה בפתח אך רחוק מידי החולים.
פעילות אינטנסיבית של העמותה על דעת הקהל במדיה וקרב קשה בכנסת ומול מקבלי החלטות הביאו לכך שבשנת 1995 עם החלת חוק בריאות ממלכתי במדינת ישראל מחלת גושה הוכרה בין חמשת המחלות הקשות אשר הטיפול בהן מכוסה על ידי קופות החולים על פי החוק. תוצאה זו אפשרה לכל חולה גושה בישראל הזקוק לכך - לקבל טיפול.
בסעיף 21 לחוק מופיע "טיפול במחלת גושה" (עפ"י קביעת ועדה מקצועית) כחלק משירותי הבריאות להם זכאים תושבי ישראל.
