વિધવા : પ્રથમ તો એક માણસ
ગઈકાલે એક સબંધીના ત્યાં મળવા જવાનું થયેલું ત્યારે બાજુમાં સફેદ મંડપ બાંધેલો જોઇને અમસ્તુજ પૂછાઈ ગયું કે કોઈ ઘટના ઘટી લાગે છે અને ભાભીએ ‘હા…’ કહ્યું ત્યાં તો બાએ બોલવાનું શરૂ જ કરી દીધું, હા બેન એક ૩૫ વર્ષનો નાનો દીકરો મર્યો છે. ત્રાસ ત્રાસ થઇ ગયો, નાની દીકરીએ છે ૩ વર્ષની પણ વહુને જુઓં તો જરાયે અસર નથી, બારમાની ક્રિયાના દિવસેય બધાની જોડે જમવા બેઠી, બાર આંગણામાં ફરતી હોય તોય માથે છેડો નથી રાખતી, એની છોડી જોડેય કેવી વાતો કરતી હોય છે!.. જરાય લાજ કે દુઃખ જેવું વર્તાતું નથી. આ સાંભળીને ખરેખર દુઃખ થયું. ના, એ વિધવા સ્ત્રી પર નહીં, આ બાની વાતો પર કે જમાનો આટલો આગળ નીકળી ગયો હોવા છતાં હજી સમાજના ઘણા બધા લોકો આવી પ્રથાઓમાં વિશ્વાસ રાખે છે. નક્કી ન કરી શકાયું કે દયા કોની પર ખાવી, આવી જૂની-પુરાણી વિચારસરણી પર કે વિધવા બનેલી સ્ત્રી પર.

વિધવા સ્ત્રીનું પતિ ગુમાવવાનું દુઃખ એના વર્તન, વાણી, આહાર કે પહેરવેશ પરથી કઈ રીતે નક્કી થઈ શકે? જે વાત સાંભળવા માત્રથી જ આપણા શરીરમાં કંપારી છૂટી જાય છે ત્યારે એ વ્યક્તિએ તો એનુ સર્વસ્વ ગુમાવી દેવા જેવી વાત છે, એના મનની પીડા તમારા-મારા જેવા શું જાણી શકવાના?

જેનો પતિ અવસાન પામ્યો હોય, એ સ્ત્રીથી ઘરની બહાર ન નીકળાય, એનાથી સારા ઉઘડતા રંગના કપડા ન પહેરાય, એનાથી હસીને ન બોલાય, એ જાહેરમાં વાત ન કરી શકે, એનાથી સ્વાદિષ્ટ ભોજન ન જમાય, એમાં ગળ્યું તો ખાસ નહીં, એને બધાથી પહેલા ઉઠીને ઠંડા પાણીથી જ નહાઈ લેવાનું અને ક્યાંક તો એવું પણ હોય છે કે વિધવા સ્ત્રી ચપ્પલ પણ ન પહેરી શકે. કેમ? તો કારણ માત્ર એટલું જ કે વર્ષોથી સમાજે વિધવા સ્ત્રીઓ માટે આવા નિયમો બનાવેલા છે અને જો આ નિયમો પાળવામાં સ્ત્રીથી ચૂક થાય તો એને બેશરમ, બિન્દાસ્ત, નફ્ફ્ટ, લાગણીહીન વગેરે જેવા શબ્દોથી સંબોધવામાં આવે છે. આવા વિશેષણોથી બિરદાવતા પહેલા કોઈ એ નથી કહેતું કે એ સ્ત્રી પણ પ્રથમતો એક માણસ જ છે..!

કોઈ સારા અવસરે વિધવા સ્ત્રી સામે મળવી કે એને કંકુવાળી આંગળી કરાવવી એ અપશુકન ગણાય, એવી અંધશ્રદ્ધા આજે પણ સમાજના ઘણા વર્ગમાં પ્રચલિત છે. કોઈ વિધવાને શુભ પ્રસંગે હાજર રહેતા અટકાવાતી હશે ત્યારે એને ચોક્કસ દુઃખ થતું જ હશે. આવી રૂઢી અને પરંપરાઓની સામે માનવતા હારી જતી દેખાય છે. એક દુઃખી સ્ત્રીને વધુ દુઃખી કરી સમાજ ક્યાં રીવાજો અને પ્રથાઓને ન્યાય આપી શકવાનો?
